Is it love or infatuation? How would I know?

How can one distinguish true love or short lived infatuation? What's the difference? Is there a book or video that can explain?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi @z_rich!
In my own opinion, true love is for matured people who realize what really true love means while infatuation is mostly for young ones. Last night, someone anonymous sent a text message to me saying that infatuation lasts up to four months but if you are still in love with the person after four months then that’s already a true love.

Now, if you are calling true love as infatuation to the young ones, they would really argue with you because they’re too young or still lack the experience to comprehend it. So the difference is in the adjectives being used: love is true while infatuation is fake love though many have been carried away and mistakenly believe that it is already true love they are feeling. Btw, here are some good sites for you to dig more:

Noted psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers has stated that love is more than just a fleeting feeling. Love is being able to know a person’s good characteristics and even scary traits and still want to be with that person. Through thick or thin, love is caring and helping person that you ordinarily would not. Love goes beyond the physical and includes emotional and spiritual connections. Ask yourself if the person that you admire were not attractive, not necessarily smart, and has wild mood swings would you still want to be with this person. If yes, then love is what you have. This is not to say that love is all about suffering, but it is having a deep understanding of all parts of another and still wanting to make that person happy and be by their side. Lust or infatuation is merely something that resolves itself within a year. The immediate rush of wanting to be with a person fades when the reality of life sets in. For example, after 3 years when there are problems such as job loss lusty souls do not stick around. The thrill of the catch is gone.
